A good flashlight's size is relatively small and does not take up space at all. Upgrade kits are also available online. You will also want to take some time and research things like stoves and lamps before beginning camping. There are plenty of foods that you can carry along when you go camping.
Bring along a camera, binoculars and a magnifying glass on your camping and hiking trips as their will be lots to see. Should the lantern get knocked over or get too close to flammable materials it could start a fire. Not until we camped in British Columbia did we learn what camping was all about. Nature walks and hiking are a great way to explore the outdoors and learn about nature.
Winter-weight camping tents can be purchased, although sometimes they can be heavier to carry. Tucking pant cuffs into socks and boots will protect skin from being exposed to ticks and fleas. The hatchet will cut the larger pieces of firewood down to size. Some campers or hikers are simply fun seekers enjoying a new experience.
Just don’t assume skills in one niche translate to the other. Spending the day fishing can be relaxing and enjoying.
